Achieving Happiness In Life

Happiness

Happiness is hard to explain but I’m sure we’ve experienced it at some point in life. It is our right to be happy and to pursue happiness. Being happy and feeling fulfilled is the state we all want to be; in fact, we strive for happiness and to be happy. The truth is that it is within our grasp but sometimes it can be out of reach or difficult to maintain.

Most times, we don’t know real happiness without haven’t been unhappy. Being unhappy too is part of being alive too and it’s OK. But, the problem is that we refuse and deny that unhappiness is part of being alive.  Living in self-denial can halt our happy mood.

Happiness isn’t something that’s already made, it comes from your actions and reactions in everyday life, and you make it happen for yourself.

Taking out time to know, observe and study your personal self, to understand your own personal happiness switch and learn to trigger it is just how you can be happy and maintain that happy feeling.

Looks simple?  Of course, it is simple.

Some of the reasons why we need to be happy

  • Positive Mood
  • Boost your energy levels
  • Self-fulfillment
  • Life becomes more interesting
  • More self-confidence
  • You get to be more creative

Some Ways To Achieve Happiness in Life

1. Be Grateful

Being grateful is the easiest way to trigger and awaken a happy and joyful heart to reflect on your success (no matter how tiny they may seem), blessings, and achievements regularly.

Establish a daily routine, where you take time to remind yourself of the grace, goodness, benefits you enjoy.  Setting aside some time to appreciate people in your life, your personal attributes, and everyday events you find yourself in.

Focus on your achievements and strengths rather than beat up yourself on past mistake and failures. Looking at your life and accomplishments with more hope and appreciation and of course, don’t forget to love “YOU”.

2. Set Goals

Setting goals and achieving them can be a very constructive routine to maintain a happier and very healthy lifestyle. All you need is to do is to understand your objective in order to set goals you can attain. Your goals can be about your career, family, health or even relationship.

As a blogger, I set goals for myself; I have daily goals and monthly goals well written out. I remember when I set my Twitter October goals and I reached it before the end of the month. I was the happiest person on planet earth. When a set goal is achieved, you’ll find happiness as the reward.

Setting goals are good but always make sure it’s realistic because if it’s not you’re bound to fail and that will bring sadness to you.

3. Volunteer

When you get involved in meaningful volunteer activities and committed to something good and bigger than yourself you have fulfillment, accomplishment and a great deal of happiness.

The feeling is awesome, amazing and definitely priceless.

If you’d like to bring some happiness into your life, try bringing it into someone else’s life and making a positive impact. Happiness is intertwined with acts of kindness and gratitude. Seeing less fortunate people around you, can make you more grateful for what you have and then helping them can trigger a truckload of happiness in your life.

Apart from being happy, volunteering and helping others can actually help reduce stress, depression and keep you mentally agile.

4. Never Compare Yourself

You’ll never feel happy comparing yours to somebody else. But, why would you compare yourself to another person, when you are different and being different is just fine. In your difference is your uniqueness, and the truth is that nobody else is like you on this planet earth.

The sooner you understand that and start being yourself, the happier you will be.

I understand it’s difficult not to live in self-comparison especially when majority of us practically live on social media and read a lot of fake stories on the internet. Social media gives us the feeling of being unworthy and inferior because everywhere you look on Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat, someone is prettier, better, richer or more flamboyant than you are. It strips of us of real happiness.

I think, its time you understand that Social media, fake people with their fake stories floating all around the internet or in real life around you shouldn’t define your life and the level of your happiness.

NOBODY IS PERFECT. I repeat again, NOBODY IS PERFECT.

The perfect, rich and pretty or handsome people on the internet, Snapchat, intstagram, Facebook or any other social media have a lot of flaws they’re trying so hard filter away or hide.

Being “YOU” always prompt self-fulfillment and it’s enough. Trying to be like Tom or Harry creates double of their personalities each on the planet and the worst part is, you’ll never get to live your life and fulfill your own peculiar destiny. Rather you’ll keep living and manifesting the life made for other people.

Always focus on what you can do to create the beautiful life you deserve and just don’t do it because someone else is doing it.

When next you try to be someone else, remember no one is perfect, not even MISS PERFECT on Instagram.

5. Letting Go Of The Past

Stop baby-sitting your past, let it go. You can only be happy if you let go of the past. There’s a reason, we call it PAST. So let it answer its name and continue being past.

When you had those past-full moments, and it happened you did nothing then, what makes you think you can change it now?  You can’t continue to live in the past or in those hurtful moments. What has happened is already over, and you can’t change it and it’s time to let it go.

When you’re stuck and glued to the past, you’re blinded and easily let go of great moments in your life. You only focus on the pains and regrets of past mistakes, failure, loss, then negative thoughts and anxiety starts creeping in depriving you of some lovely moments of peace and happiness.

6. Mindfulness

With mindfulness, you set aside time to cherish every breath you take, and allow the calm and silent moment take over you. Meditating and concentrating on your breathing to achieve mindfulness, reduce stress and negative thoughts allowing you some real happiness.

Mindfulness is an old practice of being conscious, aware, accepting life as it is and focusing on the present moment.  This means maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of our feelings, thoughts, and emotions, sensing the present than the past or future. Achieving mindfulness is a key skill to master so you can able to focus more on achieving happiness.

When you are mindful, you are present in the moment, when you are present, you won’t have to worry about the future or past.

One way to achieve mindfulness is to concentrate on your breathing. Start your exercise (jogging and dancing) and yoga routine to stable your breathing.

  8. This is a great list! Some are easier said than done, but it’s important to realize that each one of us is a work in progress. It’s not always meant to be easy. Like you said, there’s a balance of happiness and unhappiness, and both are vital.

  9. Setting small personal goals everyday is such a good thing to do; you get that ‘smashed it’ feeling at the end of each day, in some way, shape or form. Never comparing yourself with others is also vital, although it can sometimes seem impossible. This is proably one of my biggest challenges mentally. I need to remind myself that ‘I am enough’ sometimes too! I love that you say we cultivate our own happiness – I believe that as well x
